Disaster Response Hurricane Damage Caring for Patients

Our Mission:

"The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies."

What We Do for the Community

With two full-time and one part-time staff members, an integral aspect of our organization is our volunteer work force. They provide 97% of the labor required to achieve our mission and serve the community.

We deliver personal support to individuals and groups in Carteret, Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties. From a fire destroying a home, to working with a military family member and their command to bring the service member home because a loved one has died. In other instances, we provide group education for disaster preparedness or CPR training. We may be feeding neighborhoods of people who are without water or electricity because of a hurricane or other disaster.

Our Chapter delivered more than 798 military communications. 35 people received direct assistance because of home fires. More than 5,700 people were trained in the life saving skills of CPR, First Aid, AED and Water Safety in 2009.

Patients at Carolina East Health System and at Naval Health Clinic, Cherry Point receive smiles and assistance of Coastal Carolina Chapter Gray Ladies and Lads.
